Just had a student tell me that she dropped off the paperwork on July 8 and received her permit in the mail on July 19. Plus, no attitude or otherwise unpleasantness at the sheriff's office.
Additionally, I received a letter from them recently letting me know that my own permit was about to expire and the process for renewal. I thought that was interesting. Their letter wasn't 100% accurate - it said they needed the original training certificate, not a copy - but was otherwise accurate.
When the above student showed up with a photocopy, they didn't give her any trouble.

Just had another student tell me they dropped their paperwork off on a Monday and they had their permit the following Saturday. Now that's fast!
