Post subject:  Newb from the West Metro

Greetings fellow enthusiasts. My name is Erik, I'm a musician and freedom loving American built on a frame that seems to have been phased out of production years ago.

33, used to hunt with my father in my youth and since bagging a 10pt buck in 8th grade, kind of moved on to other things. IOW, I haven't hunted much in the last 10 years or so, save for 1 time. Cuts in to my guitar funds and playing time.

As things and life do, it's all come full circle and I've always wanted to "get in to" more handguns and I'm finally at a point in life where I can dedicate some of the resources required to be successful at it.

Waiting on my local PD to approve my ptp, barring any surprises I'm pretty stoked and ready. Today is actually day 10, and while I'm aware of the specifics of the process, am taking the "smile and take note" approach. Not to be confused with "nod and smile". :)

Anyways, enough about me...thanks for having me.

Thanks RobD. Prior to registering here, I was lurking a bit trying to familiarize myself with local customs on the topic and liked the community spirit here.

Thanks for the welcome folks. I must admit I spent a fair amount of time yesterday reading here. From various issues and scenarios to other pertinent details one can glean from a forum such as this. I like it.

This makes me happy, as you might well imagine.

I suspect, for various reasons, that the Forum is about to get a bit busier than it has been, of late; feel free to ask questions any time. In this subforum, you'll find that the answers are always polite; you might -- or might not; you pays your money and you takes your choice -- find the same thing elsewhere.

(My advice, worth at least ten times what you pay for it: don't worry about snarky responses. A thick skin is a good thing to have and/or develop.)

Hehe, duly noted. I am of the thicker skinned variety in most cases, especially when it comes to the internet.

She asked me to call back today or tomorrow to check on the status, and while I won't call back right away in the morning today, I'll likely give another call and see later on. I don't want to be perceived as a pest/antsy/itchy trigger finger, etc. I figure that gives a guy all the wrong attention anyways. But I don't want, and this has happened more than once in life, is them mistaking me being polite/nice/smiley as being weak, or afraid of standing up for myself and my rights. It's just how I (try to) conduct myself. Sometimes I'm reminded that not everyone appreciates that and I have to alter my approach to compensate for wind.

What this place has already done, has helped reinforce the manner in which I do carry myself. I've learned a lot so far and not being one to assume very often, given the go ahead on the ptp I'll be digging in and getting ready for some training and more.

I did get a chuckle when I put the app in, I noted that I have a couple tattoo's on my arms. She came back with my ID and said "Well, what kind of tattoo's do you have?"

"Just a dragon on this arm, and some scroll lettering and a skull on the right...want to see?" "No, no that's ok"...makes some notes.

What she didn't see, was that the lettering on my right arm underneath the skull design, is that "God Guns And Guts Made America Free".

Many thanks for the welcome folks.

Still waiting on my PTP, I think today may be the day from the conversations I've had with the records ladies. We'll see. Today is day 14.

Turns out the Department Of Human Services is the #1 slow up in getting records back from the various agencies.

I signed up on the other forum as well since it seemed more active but I've yet to have my account activated, fwiw.

Stay warm!

Erik

IMHO, stop taking to the records ladies. Call the Police Chief (he's rarely the one actually handling the process, but it's his job to do/delegate) be polite, and say that you are well beyond the maximum allowed by state law and ask him to take care of this today.

It takes 20 mins to do the background check. No reason you should not have it in hand.

No need, was just informed that mine is ready. Now I'm just trying to talk myself out of taking an hour off to go pick it, and my new friend up.
