I've always found them friendly & helpful at the Frontiersman.

Same here. I've always had good luck at Frontiersman, and the couple of times I've been to GunStop, they were helpful as well. Others- depends on who's at the counter. (Especially at a couple of larger chains- some of those guys are clueless...)

I shoot about once a month at Bill's North, and haven't ever bought a gun there, but the range workers have always been friendly and helpful.

+1 I have always been treated well at both Bill's stores. Nice folks. The range guys at the north store are always fun.

I have also had enjoyable experiences at the Cabelas stores as well.

To be a member of "the club" at the GunStop you need to have a cute and well behaved dog, and bring it with you to the shop. Everybody at the GunStop loves Sasha...

:D Went to Bills in Circle Pines today and had a wonderful experience. Guy behind the counter was more then happy to look up the price of guns as well as show me half the guns under the glass. Had a wonderful experience. Stopped at Cabelas on the way home and waited 10 Minutes to get a guy who says I will be with you in a few minutes :( Then I justed walked away. Why is there 20 customers at the counter and 3 people working in guns? :(

I have experienced more poor service at Cabelas than any other establishment. However I do not care for the seeming revolving door of employees at Bill's either. Gander Woodbury and Sportsman's Warehouse Woodbury always treat me well.

I traded in a Glock 22 for my XD at Cabelas. They do have extremly poor customer service, but they seem to have a decent trade in program. I didn't get the normal "pawn shop" feeling when I was dealing with the two guys there. I'm sure Cabela's has a little bit better purchasing power than your standard gun shop. They're like the Wal-mart of sporting goods, except with higher prices.

I've been shopping at Bill's north and harassing the same staff there for over a year. Believe it or not, Retail sales of ANYTHING doesn't pay terribly well. So, some turnover is to be expected. Teresa, Ryan, and Bruce have been at Bill's North for a long time and are real gems.

I have an 8 lb Shih-Tzu, my guess is they're not man enough for her!

that would be the perfect dog. Small droppings (relatively), loud alarm, and not a "dangerous" breed or likely to lead to litigation.

++1 :D I have a 10lb Yorkie mix female, and a 7lb Chihauhau male. They will let you know if something is out of the ordinary or looks like trouble (sometimes even a leaf blowing through the yard  ). A stranger, another dog, or God forgive a squirel or rabbit wil get them yiking like crazy. I've always said that the little ones think they are +100lb. I've always had large breed dogs in the past and loved the hell out of them. But the little ones are special unto themselves. 8) I'll have to look for an opportunity to do business at the GunStop and say hello to Sasha.

Note: Sasha is Seismic Sam's dog. He likes his guns and apparently Dogs big, imposing, and capable. ;-)

Howard at Gun Stop had a puppy called Bo who was a bundle of energy and fun to watch. Sadly, Howard has passed. I haven't been there in a while ... Might have to stop in for lunch today.

If we could just get people to sign up for a slot when they will be there; all the staffing problems would be solved... Alas that ain't gonna happen.

If you show up at Cabelas during the week around 5:00 p.m - about 6:00 you will typically not find a line at the gun counter. Any time after 6:00 during the hunting season and you'll wait in line. As well early in the morning is good too.

There are some good guys at Cabelas...
