I need (okay want) another 1911 the choices from my favorite gun shop are a used Scandium S&W that has been refinished for 749.00, a Taurus Duo Tone for 639.00, a bob tailed Fusion Arms Commander sized 10mm also used at 950.00 or a Colt Special Combat priced at a eek! inducing 1640.00.
The Smith and Fusion will both need ambi safeties installed adding another 60.00 to their cost and they both seem a bit over priced for used guns already. The Tauri get inconsistent reviews some people have no problems and some can't get 'em fixed. The Colt is gorgeous but the price makes my head hurt. Discuss.

a refinished S&W scand should be way lower than that. I would say 200 less.

Skip the ambi, unless you are lefty, they just get in the way.

There are lots better prices around for good guns, I see you are wisc, but do you have a dealer/FFL who will make transfers reasonably for you?

Frontiersman has a great Nork for 450, which would beat all those hands down if you can make the shipping and transfer work...Its got a cheesy comp bushing on it, but thats a parts drawer fix.

Al in WBL has a couple of Nice older Colts for less than a grand, which are great deals.

PM for more info....

What is the gun going to be used for? Range, Carry, Investment, or something else?

An ambi safety is useful for IDPA and IPSC competition when a weak hand stage is specified (right handed shooters, lefties would always want one).

Other than that, like 1911 says they are not needed. I have them only because I compete with my guns.

Never seen a duo tone PT1911 and never heard of someone who couldn't get one to run right. Bill's had the stainless for $500 after rebate recently.

I am a lefty so the ambi safety is important for me, I have tried being ambidextrous with pistols and it is going to require way too much work too get competent enough to carry on my right side. I am mainly thinking range and maybe some IDPA on occasion. I don't buy guns as investments, although I have bought some with the intent of using them for trade bait. Mostly I like shooting and a guy always needs another 1911.

Forgot too - the S&W 1911's use an external extractor = heresy.

Here's a pic I pulled from the Taurus owners www.taurusarmed.net (non-standard grips)

The biggest complain w/Taurus' 1911's is that the ambi safety lever loosens and sometimes falls off. Easily & permanently repairable, though.

I guess I wouldn't consider that one Duo-tone. To me, duo-tone looks like this:

So nobody is excited by the Fusion Arms 10mm at 950.00?
