Smith & Wesson 642 is better than $100 cheaper and we know it ALWAYS works!

Hard to beat perfection!

Funny you say perfection. It's a plastic gun, like a GLOCK. And funny thing is, Ruger Beat GLOCK to the plastic revolver.

S&W 642 plastic? Note that I'm talking about the 642 being perfection in a carry gun!

LCP msrp:$350 street:$290
MK3 msrp:$325 street:$250

This should sell significantly below MSRP. As for a 642 always working: The anti-S&W-lock crowd are pretty loud.

And as far as I can tell, completely theoretical!

My 640 doesn't have the lock and the 642 has never been (and never will be) locked.

Wholesale for the LCR is approx. $15.00 less than the 642 SS Centennial Airweight.

Innovative and the first reviews say the trigger is much nicer than any stock DAO S&W revolver.

Well, that latter is nice; then again, it's not like it's hard to do a home trigger job on a 642.

Far as I can tell, they've lopped an ounce off the 642 -- which is good, albeit not all that important to me -- and, at least arguably improved the standard trigger. I prefer the Ruger rocking cylinder release over all others, but it's not like there's anything even vaguely wrong with the Smith's.

All in all, I don't see the point. The improvements over the 642 are manifestly pretty minimal, at best; and while there may be a "variety of grips" Real Soon Now, for the time being, if the stock grips don't work for your hand, you're out of luck.

And this is worth more than a hundred bucks more than a new 642? That'd have to be one hell of an out-of-the-box trigger . . . . and never mind the risk, which Ruger has recently demostrated with the LCP, of buying Version 1.0.

Well, it's mostly marketing, I suppose. They could have created a Ruger 642 but we wouldn't be talking about it nearly as much.

I don't 'do' DAO anything. Period. If I can't cock it with my thumb,,,,well, I just hand it back to whomever. Just my personal preference.

With that said, I've got a half dozen Ruger wheel guns and they've never had any issues. Even when I use em to tack up fliers for my next class!
