MNBud not picking on you it just seemed a good comparison.
Last time I had a flat, it was two of 'em >.<
Thankfully, my brother has the same model as me - and I had him run his spare over too.

While in Iraq, we never went anywhere (outside the wire) without enough fire power (weapons and ammo) to fight off a good sized army. Differnt circumstances at the Mall of America, but you never know when you might run into a good sized army there either. Currently, I do not carry an spare mag for the P99, however I have never had a flat (knock on wood again) but I do carry a spare tire. +1 on that train of thought. It makes for a powerful argument to throw a spare in the pocket!

2 is one, one is none. Or perhaps you're not as ham fisted fumble thumbedas I was the last time I tried to do a reload under a timer ... Thank goodness for 2 spare mags ...
Yeah, it's not the real deal and I hope NEVER to be there but it opened me up to the thought of a couple mags being a decent idea where possible.

I can't for the life of me find either a speed loader or speed strips (S&W 642) Not that I've tried the internet, or actively searching them out in multiple stores, but everytime I get to swing by a gun shop, they never have them.
Anyone got any suggestions for a place I can swing by tomorrow?

Let's see, there's two extra mags in the shoulder rig.
When I go IWB then I'll stick a spare in my back pocket. Front left pocket holds the BUG. A couple blades, an ice pick and I'm good to go.
God help me if I get in water over my head, I'll drop like a stone.

Following this thread has convinced me to carry a spare mag for the .45. I ran around all day today with spare mag in the front pocket of the jeans. Need to pipck up a weakside belt holder but thank you for the collective wisdom. The mechanical failure issue....never even considered that in the tpa-rack-bang drills.
<slight thread hijack on>
I was shopping today for....surprise!....a pistol. Cabela's in Rogers has officially taken 1st place as crappiest customer service ever received in a gun store. Had to call over some crusty old gent who was leaning on the counter who then proceeded to literally YANK a pistol out of my hand (which was not being loaded, pointed at anybody, clip out and slide locked back when he grabbed it).
That was countered by the most wonderful customer service by Sportsmans Warehouse in Coon Rapids who did everything they could to help me find the pistol I wanted despite the store being busy and me asking a lot of annoying questions on a pretty cheap gun. No monetary interest in either place. If it's not cool to name names please delete this post and I'll refrain from further commentary. <hijack off>

Naming names is very cool. What good does a review do if we don't know who treated you well or poorly?

Some of us - me, anyway, but I know I'm not alone - carry for two reasons.
The first is a typical encounter with a violent criminal adversary (VCA). Statistics show these take place at close range and are over very quickly, only involving a few shots.
The second is an active-shooter or terrorist event, like Beslan, Trolley Square, Mumbai, Colombine, etc. In these cases, you may face multiple attackers armed with long guns, working together.
FWIW, I'm not talking about storming in and rescuing anyone - I'm talking about fighting your way out of there. I think having some extra ammo handy would be very beneficial in such a situation.

I don't carry an extra magazine. I figure I have to draw the line somewhere.
Besides there's no room on my belt between the OWB, maglight, OC Spray, folder, leatherman, handcuffs, binoculars, spotingscope and night vision goggles.
My wife started giving me funny looks so I actually moved my baton to an ankle carry.

I'm sure a place could be found for these items; the amount of chafing may be the bigger concern.
