I happened to get a good deal on a model 36-1. I gather that is known as a Chiefs Special. This is my second revolver, my first was a M1895 Nagant.

So, what can you guys tell me about it? Is there someplace I can look up the manufacture date by the serial number? Any tips, tricks, quirks I should know about?

Been looking at one of those.

Would you be willing to give us a ball park figure of what it cost.

The one I was looking at, the dealer wanted $379.00.

I'm not sure I should. It was a private sale and the price was considerably less than that. I wouldn't want to be accused of stealing... :)

Your not stealing, I think the dealer may be high. Not saying he won't get that, just not from me.

Fair enough, I was just curious. :)

I have found model 36 in good condition for 250 to 300. 379 is more than a new 6xx J-frame.

No foolin? I saw a new model 60 (in .357 maggie) at the Frontiersman with a sticker of $468. I may be interested in a lightweight if they're that much less.

Well, I got mine for under $200. Like I said, it was a private sale and an extra-good deal.

The -1 apparently denotes a 3-inch heavy barrel. I guess the regular 36 has a 2-inch?
