Post subject:  walther pps 9mm
I was doing a class today and one of the participants had this gun and let me try it. I was very impressed with the size, ease of shooting etc.

Anyone here have one...any longer term observations?

Also tried a S&W 3904 and similarly was impressed as a range gun (although I like the smaller size PPS for carry).

To me, the PPS was a gun that I have hoped Glock would make....a single stack 9mm.

I thought that I had read that there were some issue's that they where having with them. I guess that is to be expected with any new platform. As for Glock making a single stack 9, 40 etc., one could only hope! :lol:

Talk to nmat, he had one. It was dead accurate, but he had nothing but trouble with it in terms of reliability (multiple returns for repair, etc.). He traded it back for his Kahr, I think.

Hmmm. I just bought one. I am going to give it the run through on Monday. I'll report back on my new PPS.
I hope it works well. Keep in mind the ammo used for carry is what should be used for practice and deciding if it works properly.

I should state that nmat's was an absolute first run, just released model. They may have cleaned it up since.

I've been carrying one daily since last October, I've put about 1,000 rnds through it. I haven't had a single problem with it. Mine is not one of the first edition ones. Extra magazines are expensive, and there hasn't been alot of holsters made for it. It usually rides in a Crossbreed IWB holster, however it fits XD-9 leather holsters well and I just switched to a pancake style that is more comfortable and draws the same. the lever style mag release took some time to get used to also, but the muscle memory was there by the 3rd trip to the range.

I have about 100 rounds through mine thus far. Hydra shok and target 9mm.
No malfunctions. BUT! It's far from broke in.

I have several of the parent platform, the p99 walther, love them, dead reliable and with the changable backstrap, I can make them fit a lot of hands, Even the DAO models are quite nice, which is hard for me to say.....

the traditional SA/DA ones are very nice indeed, and often available at gun shows for under 3 bills.

I had been looking at PPS's as my oldest is in the market for buying his first handgun. The PPS is what I advised he get - due to his slim build, the only caveat that I had is that IMHO it could use a trip to a custom shop that can smooth out the trigger mechanisms.

Much to my surprise I found out that he dislikes all polymer pistols, so now we are saving up for an STI Escort.

If it's for carry, I'd think very carefully about that manual of arms for a first carry gun.
