I am prepared to be flamed.

25 years ago I thought the sun rise and set on the 1911 design. I no longer think so. I have gone through more of them than I can shake a stick at but somewhere between 850-900 is my all time high number of rounds without a malfuction of some kind with one. I currenty own 3 USPs. While I don't carry my tactical, it shoots as good as a Gold Cup with the right load. The three of them have never missed a beat in countless thousands of rounds, until this last week when I missed the taper crimp station on my last round and had a FTF. Not the gun's problem. My USP's also seem to have softer recoil to boot. I think the "stovepipe" and "tap rack bang" drills were born from the 1911.

I sometimes carry a Detonics CM that seems reliable enough, but I trust my USP compact a whole lot more. If you prefer the 1911 because it is not as chunky as an HK, I sure can go along with that. HK won't win any beauty contest either. If I was going to buy a new 1911, it would be made in Yonkers.

Lastly, I recently purchased a gun that was like the girl in school that you never looked at for years, but all the sudden had some appeal, a Kahr MK9 for summer carry. Man, are they small. If you are wearing a shirt, and I always do, you can hide it. It shoots groups into 1-1/2 inches at 10 yards and 4-1/2 groups at 25. Not a match gun, but certainly carry gun accurate. Only have 1100 rounds through it, but so far so good.

Thanks Hunter,

I can certainly appreciate where you're coming from and I decided a few weeks ago to keep my USP. I'll get a 1911 at some point and when I do it will be something really special. Like a Ed Brown or Les Baer. They're things of real beauty and I'll be they're not so bad at the range either.

Scratch that.

Well, I do come by the hairstyle naturally. Alas.

Now I think I've blown a stitch............ :D :D :D :D

I'm in the same court as the Sultan in that I have a fondness for the SA product. That said they're many-many makers of fine 1911 guns. The fun is finding the one that gets your motor running. The 1911 design survives the test of time because it's timeless. Enjoy the hunt :!:
