Roger at bvpistol suggested that if I wanted a lower-cost revolver to teach and shoot with, I might look for a Model 10 from CDNN in the $125 range.

Does this sound like a good first revolver? Will I get something shootable? (Ugly is fine with me, as long as it's safe and halfway accurate.)

I've downloaded the CDNN catalog, but my ignorance knows no bounds on this subject.

A good old Model 10 sure will be useable and safe. It will also be pleasant to shoot for the newbies.

A 4" barrel would be a good choice.

I agree, a very proven firearm.

Amen to the Model 10. It's a classic.

You'd have a great variety of grips for a mild recoiling gun. The K frame is a classic. I've dealt with CDNN a little but another forum I'm on has great things to say about them.

CDNN currently doesn't have any bargains. If anyone sees a nice (or even ugly but shootable) basic revolver under $200, let me know!

I just checked Hart Brother's website because I thought I remembered a couple of guns that might fit your bill. I'll state right now that I havn't seen or handled these guns, just spotted them on the site.

S&W M65 4" $179

S&W M10 $219 (I know that it's a little over your prefered but it's close)

I actually found a Taurus Model 85 at a very fair price. Thanks for the help!
