I carry my SA/DA P5 Compact like Jimmy Trivett does, de-cocked with a round in the chamber. :)

I have a DA/SA which I carry with the chamber empty and the safety on (that's what I call a real triple safety!). I know the arguments against that position and completely acknowledge their validity. My reasons for carrying in this way are that I am a relative newcomer to the handgun community and to carrying, so I felt I wanted to maximize the safety aspect until I was absolutely comfortable both with myself and my new weapon. In addition, my biggest reason for carrying is to have a weapon out in the western mountains where I spend alot of time (and had the terrible experience in September 2005 of being taken hostage for 15 hours by a couple of meth-heads--that woke me up to realities I had never seen before!) and would have sufficient time to prepare for any kind of encounter. When I am absolutely comfortable, I will carry in a different way.

!

I too would love to hear the story. Spill the beans man!

Oh, one reason I carry one in the pipe with no safety? Because it's like a 12 pound trigger pull. It would be very hard to get something unintentionally to pull that trigger. That is like a safety unto itself.

DA/SA is just too darn complicated for me, even when I'm not in an emergency. In fact I think this whole self-loading pistol fad will blow over. ;)

At a "BS" session after an IPSIC match a few years back, a metro police officer, whose department specified DA/SA firearms (or DAO), jokingly refered to the heavy DA first trigger pull as "power cocking".

Just pull the trigger and fire a round so you could get to the sweeter SA trigger pull where you could actually aim and hit something.

If your guns set up right, and you practice that way, you can hit with your first round DA...
CZ PCR (slicked up), one in the pipe, decocked...

I make it a point to practice (at least-) the first shot in decocked mode, with my PCR.

I remember when I first got my SIG, and as my first handgun, I recall how 'heavy' the double action trigger pull felt. Now thoroughly worked in, it feels smooth as butter and easy to pull; My hands are probably quite a bit stronger now/used to the act of pulling a trigger, admittedly.

(Hammer down on a chambered round)

Add my name to the point and click list. Only my long guns have safety's.

Sig recently came out with their new P220R, which is a SAO .45 and designed to be carried cocked and locked like a 1911.

Cool!
