Another thing to consider is the DA/SA of the Sigs. Let's say a person is shooting two different classes, with two different types of handguns. If you're shooting competition for time & score, now you're dealing with the two different trigger pulls. If one of your guns is DA/SA, now you're dealing with three, and that could affect your score. It's been my experience that it takes lotsa, lotsa practice to get smooth with that type of trigger system. I remind my friends who carry DA/SA guns to get some practice in DA/SA multiple shots. When they first experience that, it's usually an eye opener.
Just my $0.02

SIG Sauer offers several trigger options on their models.

I know the idea of it is anathema to you, a stalwart 1911 fanatic.

Ignoring the traditional DA, and the wallet emptying X-Five adjustable trigger, DAO (trigger too heavy?), and SAO (which is only available for the .45ACP P220), you are left with DAK, or the Double Action Kellerman.

The DAK Trigger is 6.5 pounds, essentially acting as a lighter DAO pull, and the pistols that use it have neither a decocker nor a hammer spur. The biggest complaint I've heard is that the trigger pull is still long... but it's a SIG, and SIG triggers are long, with a long reset... at least until the new SRT trigger comes out, a short reset trigger included on the P226 Elite. Not another trigger.

Quite frankly, though, a little variety isn't going to kill you, and I'm pretty sure an experienced shooter like yourself could conquer DA/SA transition.

I'd say a good buy would be a CPO (certified pre-owned) SIG Sauer pistol, the P226 Stainless variant comes to mind.

Being just a little smarter than a stump I negelected a very good choice and given my proclivity for the 1911 possibly the only choice, the Browning Hi Power.

Now to find a good one, that will be the challange.

Bummer, gotta go gun shopping. :)

Jac 714. The Standard reply to Any "What gun should I get" will always be answered by the other person with "You should Have What I carry, Model 12345 built by XYZ". You gotta make the decision. 9 is about the cheapest to shoot, the 380 is lighter, the .40/ 10 mm is heavier. Your Decision. If I see you at the range, (Bills North) your welcome to shoot anything I have with me from the 22 MKII Ruger to the .44 Desert Eagle. I have 2, 22's; 2, 380's; 2, 9mm's; and 2, 44's.

The XDs have the same grip angle as the 1911s. But then you can only shoot ESP.

Sigs all shoot nice. I think you might have to be careful about which you get so you can go to SSP.

As for ESP being more challenging then SSP. From the national match:
ESP Champion: Taran Butler Master 211.20 (38)
SSP Champion: Dave Sevigny Master 185.24 (24)

From the State match
ESP 132.84
SSP 100.24

Whats going on?

Better shooters in SSP?

The deeper I dig into this 9 mm thing the more confused I get. :? :?

What about a SIG or HK with a DAK or LEM trigger?

Beretta makes a 92 with a DAO trigger also.

I have a enjoy my 1911s
I also shoot a XD45 with a Canyon Creek trigger job shoots much like my 1911 but a little to big for my liking. I have small hands
I shot a friends M&P with a home trigger job, The mag release sticks out a little to far but can easily be fixed if I decide to buy a 9mm this will be my next purchase to me this is the next best thing to a 1911.

Others that I have sold
Sig 229 DAK
CZ 85
H&K
Ruger P89

I see I neglected to close this out.

Howard at Gunstop was cruel enough to dangle a like new BHP Practical in front of me in a moment of weakness.

I now own a great 9mm, it shoots in ESP and I have classified with it faster than my 1911 :?

Thanks everyone for the great input.

I just went through the same thing, well sort of. I have been shooting my HK usp.45 in SSP [yes you can do this, you are just shooting against the 9mm guys who can usually shoot a little faster all other thing being equal]. I decided to get a fullsize 9mm and use it for IDPA and the once or twice a year "gun camp" where you go through several hundred rounds a day.
I just don't have as much time to reload anymore, and .45 ammo has become much more expensive so I just picked up a S&W MP9 , the fullsize one.
I have about 300 rounds through it, no problems at all, the midsize backstrap seems to be the right size. I am planning to shoot the IDPA classifier [set up myself, not an official one] 3-4 times over the next month and see if I can get as used to it as I am with the USP.
I am already liking the ammo prices!

See if Gander still has those 8 round Sigs on sale for 299. That would be the best gun for the money.
