What should I try next? Are 1911's really that cool? I have never even held one.

1911's are more than cool, they are addicting. You get a steel 5" in a 45 acp, then you think a light weight alloy frame 3" would be nice to carry. Then you think, heck a 9mm would be cheaper to shoot, so you find a nice stainless 1911 in 9mm. The three you have shoot nice, are a blast to punch holes with, but they very in impact with different loads, they all have fixed sights. So you find a good deal on an adjustable sight model, but it is in 40 S&W, well it would be neat to have a 1911 in 40 S&W, so now you own 4. But now you still have a problem, you wanted a 9mm with adjustable sights, and that stainless 38 Super at the local gun shop looked pretty cool too.

Etc., etc. and etc., that is how it all begins. I use to be a big bore revolver fan until my neighbor, which was the Blue Earth County Sheriff got me kinda hooked on 1911's. The rest is history, maybe too much history.

I had put mine away for a few weeks. When I picked it up, I remembered why I bought it in the first place. For many people, the feel and heft of a 1911 is nearly a spiritual experience.

I see what you mean.
It was only a couple years ago that I had no intersest guns. Didn't even own one.
Now I need a lot of them.
I still need a Shotgun and rifle.
My brother in law just orded a Bushmaster with a Leapolde (spelling) scope that added anith $700.00 to the cost of the gun. Can't wait to get my hands on that beauty.
The wife my have to take a second job 8)

Cobb, you didn't mention a 1911 in 22 LR. The Colt Ace. Kimber. Or just a conversion for the 1911's you have.

Sorry in advance if you are compelled to buy another 1911.

I agree with the rest, you really need to add a 1911 to that already fine collection.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I do not have any 1911 22LR or conversions. In fact, I have none in 9x23 and sold my 1911 in 40 S&W.

But you've got me thinking about a 22LR. :P

I do have an offer for oscarwanson though. Make it down to one of our IDPA matches in Faribault this summer and I will supply you the 1911 and gear to shoot a stage or two with us. Did this 3 years ago at a Mankato IDPA match with a couple shooters and got them hooked. In fact, I was told that one of the guy's wife was mad at me because he blamed me for going out and buying a 1911.

I guess I can live with that. 8)

You don't want one of those mean nasty 1911s! I'm told (no I don't have one) they are addicting so I avoid them!

plblark, you will have to bring your 1911 when you get to shoot my P32 and P11. :D

I have purposely kept out of this discussion to this point, as I have been bitten by the 1911 bug for some time now. I am seeking help, searching out a suitable twelve-step program, but so far have been unable to locate anything but a few rather seedy, underground-type organizations.

Really, these are amazing pistols which regularly can and do show absolute grace and precision. This, however, depends greatly on the skill of the individual gunsmith. Unfortunately the better 1911's can put you on short rations for an extended period...

Post subject:  1911's Rule

1911's and their close brother 2011's are a must have for any serious enthusist.

A single stack 45 is a classic, there are a number of excellent manufactures ranging from dependable to art.

A 1911 in 9mm is a dream to shoot and a 2011 in 40 is a great high capacity for range or practical shooting.

I've got 4 in various config's and the next 2 already planned. I think I'll need at least 6-8 to get the full enjoyment from the platform.

If you have not guessed; I'm partial to the trusty 1911.
