I am considering one of these for purchase but would like to see one in the flesh before hand. I really hate to order sight unseen, I have handled the full size GP which I dont like and the SP which I do like. Has anyone seen the 3" GP at any of the toy stores within say about an hour of the Twin Cities? Thanks

I too have failed to find one in town, but I just went ahead & bought one online. I got it because I carry a DAO SP101 which I love, and I wanted the closest thing to it that I could shoot in IDPA, where I need a six-shooter. I love it too, so far. If you want to check it out I imagine we could find a way to get together. In fact if you wanted to shoot it, I bet you own something cool that I've never shot.

I'm still looking for an IDPA-legal holster for it. Here it is with a Hogue monogrip, in one of the holsters I need to return because it doesn't cover the trigger:

before you return it consider bringing it to me and I'll see what I can do about patterning / modifying another holster to cover the trigger.

making new stuff is fun.

Hmm, you maybe just made my day. I'll PM you shortly but I gotta leave for work in a bit.
Meanwhile, here's the GP100 again in another holster that didn't work (Triple K "Skeleton"). The web site showed a photo of a smallish automatic in the holster; on that gun the trigger guard was entirely covered.

Thanks for the offer but no need to actually fire.
I have relatively small hands and dont like the grip circumference size, distance to trigger size of the standard GP and thought if the grip size is closer to a SP that it might be ok. Hence my preference to the 1911 single stack which I could make fit me with thinner grips, shorter trigger, xtra high beaver tail, flat msh, etc.

I hear ya. Although, as you may know, the GP100 frame (like the SP101) has a stub that the grips slide onto, rather than a a grip frame like most revolvers, which allows for tremendous flexibility in the size and shape of custom grips. Just a thought.

The grip is going to be the same on a 6", 4" and 3" GP100, same frame just shorter barrel, a GP100 is a GP100.

Learn something new every day. I went to Rugers web site and looked a little closer and the 3" does have what looks like smaller grips.

Indeed. The 3" GP100 uses the same grip inserts as the SP101.

Good buy! The SP is a heck of a gun. I carry mine most everywhere it's legal to do so. And you got a decent price, too. :)
