Hi,
Most of us have heard that Smith & Wesson K frame revolvers don't do well with 125 grain and lighter bullets. Below is a great answer as to why.

It has to do with the flame temperature at the gap of the cylinder where the bullet enters the forcing cone. The powders that were used for the lighter weight bullets burned faster and hotter and there for caused more damage to the forcing cone. The stainless guns were better than the carbon steel guns for flame resistance. The amount of metal in the forcing cone also makes a big difference that is why the N and L frame are better than the K frame [for these bullets]. I hope that helps.

that probably one works with 125 JHP 357 loads which were known to eat model 19 and 66's up pretty fast, I have some 110 grain JHP .38s that worked fine for years in a 10 HB> They were the old Super Vel 1250 FPS loads.

for what purpose,
Hunting the 158 jsp remmy load is the best for deer.
For Self defense, the winchester 125 JHP is the one that got the reputation as a one shot fight stopper. Its cool to shoot a few, just don't use them as plinker ammo. shoot 38's for practice then a couple cylinders of 125's as a reminder of what the real stuff feels like, then thats it.

The "FBI load" for Model 13's and 65's is the 38+P 158 gr LSWCHP. All the major manufacturers have one. IIRC, they never used .357 loads.

The FBI load is not as successful as the 125 silver tip load that had a 99 % one shot stop rating for a while. It was used as it could be transfered from BUG (model 36) model 10 and model 13 and others without issue. it also predates the modern era of using higher velocity with a jacketed bullet and a HP nose to promote expansion.
In a 38 special, the new +P 125 or 130 grain loads with the low flash, high energy powders are terrific.
