I'm considering getting a couple Ruger LCPs for my wife and me when we are just "walking around". The little gun seems to be nice in many ways and I like the .380 caliber, too. Looks like a good gun to toss in a pocket when going to the grocery store or where ever. And, a good ankle gun for back up.

I do have some concerns, tho.

I've never been fond of the just 2 fingers on the grip faction. I'd like to see a magazine with a couple more shells in the oven and a bit longer where I can get my pinky on the grip. Sorta like the Bersa .380. The KelTec is the same deal as the new Ruger and I did not care for that either.

Any one have an idea if ... when ... the LCP will have an extended mag?

Also, where is the best place to find one of these little buggers at a sub $300 price?

Thanx.

I can tell you that the finger extention for the Bersa fits on the Kel-Tec, so you may have luck with the same trick on the Ruger.

The KT +1 and +0 pinky extensions purportedly both fit the LCP mags. Haven't tried it myself yet. Reports are that there may be a small gap between extension and bottom of gun so there'd be some cosmetic issues.

As for in-town purchases, I don't know. I went out of state for mine solely because the circumstances involved were too good for me to pass up at the time.

Good luck,

GunStop has them at $279, when they have them.

I found a local gun shop that said they get Ruger LCPs pretty much "on demand" and sold 3 last week.

I gave them a $100 deposit and the guy said I should have one next week .... or maybe this week.

Price was a variable ... $249-@279. I'm fine with that price.

I'll post when I have it in hand. And, again when I run some rounds thru it.

Thanx for your help.

Good folks. I've dealt with them for over a decade. EZ to deal with and helpful. They've been there for many years, too.

I've run about 100 rounds thru the LCP. I am a bit disappointed, tho. I am not accurate at all with this little gun from 7-10 yards. The gun shoots low and left of target.

I'm not sure why. I am pretty much 3-4 inch groups at 7-10 yards with my daily carry Bersa 380 firing at 1-1.5 second intervals. Perhaps it is the vestigial sights on the LCP .... or, I'm just not squeezing off the rounds properly. Or ... just more practice?

Some have suggested dry firing with a snap cap to helps accuracy. I've heard that this does help. Or, perhaps .... I just need to cycle a few more hundred rounds thru the gun.

Anyone have an "accuracy" problem with the LCP? I have to say that with several 9 mm Rugers, a 92F, the Bersa 380 and 22 calibers, several S/W 40s/45s, I'm dead on at 7-10 yards with 3 inch groups in pretty rapid fire. It's just the LCP that I'm concerned with.

BTW .... the LCP has a pretty snappy back lash. One needs a firm grip.

If you're like me and have a flinch, that might explain it. Flinch often manifests as an anticipatory jerk. The following chart shows common sources of misplaced shots for a right handed shooter.

Dry fire practice can help if your problem is just plain old trigger pull mechanics. But if you have a flinch, you need to train out of it at the range. Sadly, I have no easy advice. My flinch haunts me to some degree on way range trip.

ree .... thatnx for the image. It is helpful.

But, what I don't understand is why I'm pretty good shooting other guns from 22 to 45s and not the LCP? If I were 'flinching', wouldn't that be evident with the other guns, too?

The LCP does have poor sights .... and the tiny grip only supports 2 fingers and is pretty slim, too. I wonder if this plays a part, or if I just need more practice ... which I intend to do this weekend.

A lot of the other guns you list have a much longer sight radius. Perhaps your flinch or glitch when shooting is just magnified more when shooting the LCP. Hard to make a definite statement on how well you shoot a particular gun after only 100 rounds though. Give it a good chance before spending more money getting into a different gun is my suggestion.

Otherwise an XD or Glock sub compact is another option, both have grip extensions which make it tough to tell if the gun is a sub-compact or regular compact, and also add magazine capacity. Money isn't a big step up, if $100-200 isn't a big deal. Or go used and solve the $ problem.

I am really uncomfortable shooting with only 2 fingers on the grip myself.

I think I made a bad assumption that you had done some dry fire work with it and were still having problems. I can dry fire all my guns very nicely, but then suck it up at the range with a lot of low-left shots. I know I'm jerking...back when I had a problematic PM9 that gave me a lot of opportunity to do malfunction drills, I can't count how many times I'd pull the trigger, hear a click, and watch myself push the gun down due to my anticipatory flinch.

I know my light 3" Kahr MK9, particularly with hotter loads, flips enough that it feeds my flinch. The small size makes it harder for me to securely grip it to control muzzle flip. But with bigger guns that I can get a better grip on, and thus control better, my flinch is less of a problem.

But I also know that when I tried out a friend's Keltec P3AT, I just couldn't even hold onto it securely enough for it to cycle reliably. So it could just be that gun is simply too small for you hold steady and smoothly work the trigger. Try some dryfire with it and see.
