I've got a Sig/Hammerli Trailside that's pretty fun.

My recollection is that my 4.5" barrel model (not the 6" shown just above" was about $400 2 1/2 years ago, surely not the cheapest, but pretty good quality gun for the money. One complaint you'll see about them is the plastic mags. But I've not have any issues with these in several thousand rounds through them.

i also have a mark II and absolutely love it, there a little more expensive but a great gun!

i own the beretta u22 and never had a problem with it what so ever good shooting gun at a good price i find it breaks down for cleaning pretty easy and quick myself.

I have a U22 that I got used from Gander mountain but it never had a round fired the guy who bought it brought it back a few days latter with the tags still on.

As far as the shooting I;ve only had a few missfires from bulk ammo but it's just cheap wall mart bulk so that's more the ammo than the gun.

As for the thumb screw the only hard part is breaking it lose the first time after that I's easy to clean and fast theres even a cleaning and assembly video on you tube 80)

I like High Standards and the Buckmark. My dad had and probably still has a High Standard Sport King that was my introduction to pistol shooting when I was 9ish I think. The Buckmark has a very similar feel in my hand and way cheaper.

My 2 cents worth....Ruger or the Browning...

I really like my Ruger MK III.

I like the High Standards too. Easiest pistols to field strip I've ever encountered. Their triggers tend to be things of beauty as well. As for a modern gun for plinking, I doubt anyone could go wrong with either the Browning or Ruger. I wouldn't worry too much about the price. If you take care of it, it will run for the rest of your life.

I picked up my Smith 22A for dirt cheap used at Gunstop. Thing shoots like a charm.

Roger at BPR gave me the most useful tip I've ever gotten for .22LR...use the CCI el cheapo ammo that is $15 per brick. I've yet to have a misfire with that ammo!

I just picked up a Beretta Neo.. I really liked the way it shoots and it is very reasonably priced. My hands are smaller and it fits very nicely .. Not that it is a 'girl' gun, I had to wait to take a look at it - a couple of guys were eyeing it up.

I hope it's not a girl gun...I have one too and enjoy it.

Most definately NOT a 'girl' gun! I am anxious to get back to the range and have some fun!

I have to wonder what makes a "girl gun". My conclusion has been that it's a girl gun if a girl loves it. In which case, a number of very manly men are in possession of girl guns without knowing it. And that would include meltedeyes' Beretta.

I have this same gun and once I got it field stripped, I am going to need assist with putting it back together correctly... Yes, bit of a bitch to clean, but nice gun to shoot.. Not expensive to own, fun to shoot...

I do not hit the range without my Ruger Standard and MarkIII 22/45. The 22/45 gets expensive with an "Ultimate Clip Loader", cuz I can burn up ammo fast with that thing. I have been eyeing those Calico pistols, but do not know much about them other than ammo looks expensive for that too!!
