To his credit, the original complainer wrote to the newspaper again to apologize deeply once he found out the reason for his early awakening. I saw it myself.

What number would Jesus have had to choose?

What's the number to the White House? There's your answer!
Except, he who answers that phone won't die for your freedom, OR your soul, he'll just take them!

Umm, that didn't answer the above question.
The answer should have been "probably the number for Hebrew"?
BTW, that letter should be attributed to Lt. Col Scott Pleus from Luke.

That letter was great but someone just had to inject that last little bit about speaking Spanish. It's a pet peeve of mine too since I don't speak Spanish but sometimes listening to the same old tune being beaten on the same old drum makes my ears hurt.

Aramaic? OK, I wouldn't have guessed that.
According to the article, there is a possibility that he knew Hebrew and Greek too.

I figure it did answer the question, unless I misunderstood. Press one for English, Press 2 for Spanish, Press (White house number) to speak to Jesus!

No, not to speak to jesus. What number would jesus have had to press since he didn't speak english. There is a american-centric tone to the thing you posted, not surprisingly the article talks about the exact thing I was thinking. A percentage of americans who would actually think jesus would have spoken english.

Well, that simply makes no sense, no sense at all!

How large a percentage would that be? I mean, sounds nice, but I have never actually met anybody so stupid that he or she would have ever thought that.
Given that Jesus was, in Christian belief, the son of God, and one part of the Trinity, which makes him God as well, his command of human languages would be impressive.
I would expect that he would speak to each individual in his own tongue, whether Aramaic, Hindu, English, or Chinese. But not Hip-Hop. I think he would tell anybody speaking Hip-Hop to go back to school and learn English.

Large enough for someone to write an article on it. It's on someone's radar for a reason. As for meeting stupid people... Just because you haven't met someone you deem not stupid enough, doesn't mean they aren't right in front of you. Have you asked people "what language does jesus speak?" Quote: I would expect that he would speak to each individual in his own tongue, whether Aramaic, Hindu, English, or Chinese. Very valid point, and I could agree with that. Quote: But not Hip-Hop. I think he would tell anybody speaking Hip-Hop to go back to school and learn English.
So you have met people stupid enough? These are the people you should ask the question to.

Quote: I figure it did answer the question, unless I misunderstood. Press one for English, Press 2 for Spanish, Press (White house number) to speak to Jesus! Ah! I get what you were getting at now. Meanwhile.... According to Mark Roberts: Quote: Second, the fact that Jesus didn't speak English reminds us that he lived in a culture quite different from ours. If we're going to understand Jesus, we need to take this difference seriously. Sometimes, however, we forget to do this. In a recent survey, people were asked to name the greatest American of all time. Jesus came in thirteenth on the list! (Ironically, Jesus tied with Bill Clinton.) Once we get beyond the silliness of this ranking, we discover a genuine problem. The more we see Jesus through the lens of American culture, the less we will know him as he really was - and reall Here is the survey, in Harpers Magazine:Quote: Rank shared by Jesus Christ and Bill Clinton among "the greatest Americans of all time," according to Americans
