Quote: Deputies arrested seven people they believe were involved in a home burglary, and hurt the person inside.
The Houston County, Minnesota Sheriff's Department says five adults and two juveniles face multiple charges including first-degree burglary.
According to deputies, the suspects broke into a home in Houston around 3:30 Sunday morning.
Deputies say they damaged property and assaulted a person inside the home.
Investigators say they're still looking for another adult and a juvenile in connection with the case.
Seven thugs in your home at 3am isn't going to end well.

7? Either they were expecting a war (in which case we'd probably have heard about a large selection of weaponry brought to bear) or they were planning on carting off the whole house in short order.
Either way, it does help make the case for not using limited-capacity tools for home defense... (Or having those be the first, backed up by normal-capacity ones...)

That's why Joel's new revolver is an 8-shot. Still gives him one spare.

The article mentions they're still looking for 2 more in connection. Wether they were also there, and escaped, or were just part of the Planning Commission, we'll never know...
So potentially 9 miscreants....

Which is why you back up the revolver with a 12-gauge...
...nothing says "get the $%@ out of my house" like the cha-chink of racking the pump gun.

I can back up the Hi-Power (14 rounds) with 30 rounds of .223 JHP and soft-points from an AR.
Oh, yeah. There's a 12-ga. 870 there, too, with 4 loaded and 5 in a side-saddle holder.
Damn! I hope that's enough. If not, there's a Kimber .45 nearby with several loaded mags and the snubbie with 5 more rounds plus a dozen in speed strips. A spare mag (13) for the BHP and another (30) for the AR...
Hmmm... I'm good, I think. Doors are locked, the dog is a light sleeper...

Seconded. I love my 1300 Defender. It makes me hope for zombies.
*sigh*
Someday medical technology will get that far and go horribly wrong. I just hope it happens in my lifetime.

Can you imagine the news stories if you did manage to shoot them all?
Savage homeowner with arsenal kills seven intruders! They were turning their lives around! Story at ten.
I doubt that would ever happen. Typically one or two get shot and the rest flee. Nobody wants to stand around and get shot. They aren't combat troops, just thugs.
That's one reason you probably don't need high capacity guns although in that type of situation a high cap would be very comforting.

Here's my line of thinking, putting myself in the situation:
1) I've already won Murphy's Lottery, I'm about to be/am involved in a gunfight (and wasn't able to escape, for whatever reason)
2) What are the odds Murphy's gonna REALLY have fun with me, and make me one of those outliers, for whom the incident isn't over with 2 shots in 3 seconds...
I'm gonna bring as much spare ammo as I can reasonably manage.

You got that backwards. First gun I'm grabbing is the "gauge" stuffed with 7 rounds of Federal 000 Flight Control Buckshot. If that runs dry, it's onto the G22 with 16 rounds+reload of Gold Dots. If that runs dry, there's a few more in the nightstand, but hell if I need more 38 shots for a home instrusion, I'm fucked.

Just think if I used my 45/70, I could whack multiples 4-7 deep with one shot. Much more PeeCee.

My thought was if I'm sitting on my couch, and the door flies open, my pistol is on my person. Giving me enough time to grab the howitzer... mnglocker wrote: [Just think if I used my 45/70, I could whack multiples 4-7 deep with one shot. Much more PeeCee.
Well, yeah, but the neighbors may not approve of rounds leaving the house...
