Hello everyone. My name is Keith and I have been lurking here for a couple of months now. I am not sure if it is just because this forum is local (I live in Minneapolis area) or if it is the group of guys and gals here, but it is by far the most interesting I have found on the net.
Anyway, I am a 41 year old construction worker who could see the industry taking a turn for the worse and applied at Federal Cartridge Co. for a little stability. I have been there for nearly 1 and a half years now. I started off making .40 cal pistol cases at night on the weekends and am now assembling centerfire primers during the day on the weekends. I have always been around guns growing up but never quite appreciated them until I found myself in the industry. Last year I bought a Beretta .40 cal PX-4 Storm and in November I took my MN Carry Permit class and have been carrying regularly since about Christmas.
Thought I would tell you all who the neighbor looking in your window was before I started waving "hello" or throwing a brick or two through it. You really have a great site here. I think it would be fun to be a part of it.

Discount on seconds is great. I get my .40 cal ammo for $3.00 a box which is very nice. Most other calibers is a bit more expensive. Ordering ammo is about 50-60% of store prices.
ATK is the corporation that owns Federal now. You can google them and look for career oppurtunities if you are really interested. Last month they had another hiring period but I think they get a list to use for the next several months so it might not be good timing.

Do you fill the primers by hand? Or are you putting the anvils in?

Welcome to the forum.
You will like the site and the people are great. We have fun but are serious enough to provide good useful information.

You sound like you have some knowledge of how things work there. They used to have chargers (fill the primers with powder) and operators (insert anvils and inspect completed primers) but due to the repetitive nature of charging they decided to rotate the employees so now we do both. I work 3 12hr days; 4 hrs charging and 8 hrs operating each day. Minus breaks of course. To answer your question, I do both.
I noticed your posts in another thread and could tell that you have a good understanding of Catholicism. A rare thing, even for Catholics. I have been back in the Church for about 8 years now and currently go to Holy Cross in North East Minneapolis. Religion, politics, and guns; fun topics.

I am not sure how much "expertise" I have. I can tell you the tolerances of .40 cal pistol case measurements to a thousandth of an inch and spot an empty primer (no powder) on a plate of 2000 but other than that my knowledge is probably spotty at best.

Welcome.
Now I am very interested. How does one actually make a primer and a case.
And are tours offered?
