Greetings from a newcomer here. I am a Minneapolis Criminal Lawyer and longtime plinker. I thinking about getting into competitve shooting, via MN Rifle & Revolver. Carry permit holder. In my criminal defense work I sometimes represent people concerned with protecting their civil rights to firearms. I don't do pure civil litigation, such as suing to force a permit to issue. Even though I have taught courses to other lawyers on impairment of civil rights to firearms as a collateral consequence of a criminal case, and have been labeled a gun rights expert by other lawyers - I do not consider myself an expert in gun laws generally. I consider myself a Libertarian. I'm a NRA member. Howdy!

Thanks for the welcomes!

Not sure what IAAL opinions or IANAL ones, are?

What is "the next steel shoot on 8/15 in Hutchinson?" Ok, my newbie guess -- steel as in shot? Skeet? Or - way off?

I like shooting, but am still learning much. In my youth, I was a political activist - and at heart still am. The Second Amendment defines the First - in my humble opinion...

In part related to the political atmosphere, why not do what it takes to be grandfathered in, so to speak, now? (Just in case.) Right? So - I need to learn more about .308 rifles... Especially, at the moment, the best scope for a FAL long shooter?

I've been going to Bill's in Robbinsdale. Closer, and nice. I've the other stores and ranges in the area I've vistied as well.

This BB forum is very impressive! Compliments to the management!

IAAL = I Am A Lawyer
IANAL = I Am Not A Lawyer

More useful for you might be (and my apologies to one of the lawyers here for copying his acronym from another post):

IAALBIANYL = I Am A Lawyer But I Am Not Your Lawyer :lol:

Shooting steel reactive targets. Supposed to be a lot of fun. I haven't been to one of these yet, but if I can scrounge the ammo, I may be at the next one.

Also important:
IANALBIDPOOTVO - I am not a lawyer, but I did play one on TV once
IANALBIWALOCS - I am not a lawyer, but I watch a lot of cop shows.

Welcome.

Probably a subject for another area, but, yeah, it is an interesting thing -- and, I think, worth discussing, particularly if Marc and David can be lured into it -- that most if not quite all of the suits around permits are handled by people who are either largely or almost exclusively criminal defense folks, even though that is civil, and not criminal, litigation.
